EV Transport

Founded by seasoned infrastructure and financial services investors, NBFI Electric is the culmination of decades of interest and participation in the energy transition.

As base load energy generation was being reduced, and renewable generation increased an imbalance followed for networks and one of the sectors most affected by the associated price volatility was the commercial & industrial/manufacturing sector. In response Peter Wright, Dr Henry Pinskier and The Hon. Morris Iemma (former NSW Premier) co-founded CEP Energy (CEP). CEP is a developer, owner and operator of a portfolio of large scale industrial microgrids involving solar and battery infrastructure and utility battery projects. CEP was sold to a significant Australian Fund Manager in April 2025.

Peter Wright has had a 37 year career involving venture capital, technology transfer, infrastructure investment, financial services and funds management across the Asia Pacific region, Peter established a funds management platform known as NBFI in order to create specialist funds in real estate, infrastructure and energy. It was the NBFI platform that created CEP Energy, and it is the NBFI platform that is creating NBFI Electric to be a leading player in the EV bus, truck and commercial vehicle markets.

In 2025 all State Governments in Australia legislated for public sector buses to transition to zero emission, which means electric or hydrogen. As hydrogen is not economic at this stage, this requires the electrification of 17000 public sector buses. This is a once in a generation $17bn transition that requires not only bus assembly skills but also energy infrastructure and charging. NBFI Electric seeks to address the well articulated Government desire to electrify public bus fleets across Australia. NBFI Electric has partnered with some leading offshore OEMs whose distinctive competence is the manufacture of electric buses, trucks and commercial vehicles across the globe. Our strategy is to provide a holistic solution to the current ‘pain points’ for Governments – the bus as well as the responsibility for the funding and installation of charging infrastructure as well as the funding of potential required network upgrades.

NBFI Electric has recruited well credentialed senior EV industry executives to lead the establishment of manufacturing plants for bus assembly in Australia. It is planned to establish assembly plants, and employ/train staff, in all States & Territories in which NBFI Electric’s buses will be sold. This represents a significant opportunity to bring automotive assembly back to Australia to supply the local market and select export markets.
